Willits, CA - Terry Hansen, President/CEO of Howard Memorial Hospital presented Mendocino College with a donation for $20,000 on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. The intention of the donation is to provide support to Mendocino College’s Nursing program. Howard Memorial Hospital’s donation is one of three donations expected from hospitals in the Mendocino College district.

“Howard Hospital has long been a supporter of Mendocino College and has helped us build the outstanding Registered Nursing program that we have today,” Kathryn Lehner, Mendocino College President said. “Were it not for Howard Hospital partnering with other local hospitals to fund a full-time faculty position, it would not have been possible for Mendocino College to continue operating at our current level.”

Previously, nursing shortages were common on a national level, and hospitals struggled to fill many of their nursing positions. It is an important goal for all three participating hospitals to help increase the availability of trained nurses in Mendocino County.

“It is a pleasure to continue to support Mendo College’s nursing program,” said Hansen. “We see the importance of having qualified nurses in our local hospitals and communities. Our partnership with Mendocino College is important in making this a reality.”
